Showcased earlier this year to fanfare at 2017 New York International Auto Show, the new three-row, seven-passenger crossover is set to be a full-size SUV writ large, built on a modified Subaru Global Platform architecture like the one already comprising new Subaru models like Impreza and Crosstrek. Will it appear at late November's Los Angeles Auto Show? We're excited at the prospect.
Details are sparse and rumors are aplenty, but we do know a couple things about the new 2019 Subaru Ascent. For one, Subie aficionados from here in Bremerton might be pleased to hear their favorite automaker might be moving away from a six-cylinder powertrain. A turbocharged 2.4-liter, four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine looks like it'll come standard, direct-injected for a combination of power and efficiency and built horizontally opposed to enhance drive-time balance in tandem with what will surely be standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
Secondly, the new Ascent will weigh in at an overall size close to segment rivals like Mazda CX-9, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, and Nissan Pathfinder – sizable, to be sure. Within that imposing figure, extended vacationers on off-grid family outings will also be delighted to find dual second-row captain’s chairs to keep everyone luxuriously comfortable.
How will 2019 Subaru Ascent compare not only to the large SUV competition, but also to siblings like 2018 Outback, the new Subaru Crosstrek, and die-hards like the Subaru Forester? Only time will tell. You can take some of your own behind the wheel of one of these here at 3888 W. State Highway 16 in Bremerton,.
