Subaru has always been a safety-focused automotive manufacturer, and by winning nine of the IIHS's TOP SAFETY PICKs for 2020, they have proven that their hard work has paid off. This commitment to safety shows how Subaru cares about their customers and the passengers that ride in their vehicles. Our team at Peninsula Subaru in Bremerton can break down how Subaru won all of these awards. Read on to learn more!

What are the IIHS Awards?

The IIHS started to award automotive manufactures with the TOP SAFETY PICK award back in 2006, and Subaru has always strived to meet or exceed the IIHS's standards. For the 2020 model year, the IIHS made the test even more strict, which is the seventh time the IIHS has done so since 2006. Not only did Subaru exceed the IIHS's expectations again, but they improved upon their results last year, winning nine picks instead of eight. This is even more impressive due to the increased stringency of the 2020 test.

What Awards Did Subaru Win?

Subaru got standard TOP SAFETY PICKs for the Ascent, Crosstrck, Impreza sedan, Impreza five-door, and the WRX. These vehicles were 5 of the 64 total vehicles to win a TOP SAFETY PICK for 2020, which is down from 111 in 2019. Subaru also had four vehicles win a TOP SAFETY PICK+, which was only granted to 23 vehicles total for 2020. To get a TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the IIHS, your vehicle needs to get an excellent rating in all six crashworthiness tests, along with a good rating for the headlights. The vehicle's front crash prevention needs to get an advanced rating, or the vehicle can get a superior rating in specific crash categories. The vehicles in Subaru's lineup that achieved this immense goal are the Crosstrk Hybrid, the Forester, the Legacy, and the new Outback.
