Subaru officially debuts the redesigned 2020 Subaru Outback!

The New York Auto Show is underway, and yesterday Subaru finally debuted the redesigned, sixth-gen 2020 Subaru Outback! Since the Outback is Subaru's flagship model, we're always excited to see what changes the brand has cooked up. Here's some new features you can expect to find.

Subaru has two new design philosophies: Dynamic x Solid and Active x Tough. The Outback falls under the second camp, and this means it has a more rugged presence, thick panels and cladding, and that well-known 8.7-inch ground clearance. The outside looks are a little more streamlined than the previous model year, but the inside is an entirely new story. There's more cargo space, more passenger volume, and the dash area is extra premium thanks to the tablet style layout of the large touchscreen.

The touchscreen we mentioned above really does take center stage in the Outback. On select trims you can get a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen, and this size is on par with premium brands. We also like the addition of a front-view camera (no more sketchy garage pull-ins) and the DriverFocus system that can detect drowsy or distracted driving.

The standard engine is a 2.5L, but it's still better than the previous year, as engineers rebuilt 90% of it! Instead of 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft torque you'll now get 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft torque. There's also a new XT trim with a 2.4L turbocharged engine. With this stronger engine there's 260 horsepower, 277 lb-ft torque, and towing up to 3,500 pounds. That's more horsepower and notably more torque than the discontinued 3.6L, and if you've wanted to tow you'll enjoy getting more than 2,700 pounds of towing capability.

Shoppers, like you, can purchase the 2020 Subaru Outback starting in the fall. Keep following our blog and website to learn more about the arrival of the redesigned Outback!
